Privacy Policy

Cookies

Cookies are small files saved on your computer, which can contain some information, such as an ID. Cookies, by themselves, do not tell your personal information unless you choose to provide this information by, for example, registering. In this site case, it’s either by sending a comment on this site, or registering with Google. Even without registration, a site can save a unique ID in a cookie to check against it at a subsequent visit to learn if you visited the site previously.

On this site cookies are used for analytics and tracking some usage, for CAPCHA and for the cookies toolbar itself. A toolbar will be presented on your first visit which allows you to disable non essential cookies.

You can configure your browser to accept all cookies or to alert you every time a cookie is offered by a server. Most browsers automatically accept cookies. You can set your browser so that you will not receive cookies and you can also delete existing cookies. Some parts of the site will not function properly if you reject cookies.

Analytics, which sets some cookies, is done using Google Analytics and Google Console. Google might use that information for ads and other things, to find out more you may visit the Google policy page here: Google Privacy Policy.

Cookies may be also used for CAPTCHA, to check if you are not a spam bot, to avoid spam comments. CAPTCHA is done using Google reCAPTCHA. Again, for the Google privacy policy, please visit their policy page.

Contact Forms

We do not use the information submitted through contact forms for marketing purposes. On the other hand, Google reCAPCHA is used to prevent spam. Google might use the received information to personalize ads or for some other purposes. If you have privacy concerns about that, please visit the Google privacy page pointed above for information.

Data you send through the contact form is used to send an e-mail and it's also logged. The log is checked and the records are deleted regularily. We will consider your e-mail and possibly reply. If a business relationship forms, of course the data will be retained for contact purposes, but otherwise the e-mails will be deleted.

Content from other websites

This site contains links to other websites, for example to the Computational Physics Blog or to Google. Of course if you open those links, the Privacy Policy here does not apply to those sites. They might have their own privacy policy.

Analytics

We use Google Analytics and Google Console for analytics. Please visit the Google policy page here for details on Google privacy policy: Google Privacy Policy.

Your Data

Who we share privacy data with

The personal data about you stored/logged on this site is not shared with anybody else. We don’t give or sell privacy data to anybody. Some data about your message posted here might be received by Google - not the personal data you fill in the form, though - the details are presented above in the Contact Form section. Data stored on your computer in the form of cookies is also shared with Google, please check out the Cookies section about for details.

How long we retain personal data

If you leave a message, the message and its metadata are retained for a while, typically a couple of months. It will be deleted afterwards from the log files, but it might still be used for contact info if a business relationship forms, otherwise the e-mails will be also deleted.

What rights you have over your data

If you have left messages, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

Where we send personal data

We don’t send private data stored on the server to any third party. The only data that is available to third parties is the data publicly exposed in the pages and the data used for analytics and CAPTCHA (through cookies). The only way private data that is sent from this site is through an e-mail to the administrator, for contact purposes.

Additional Information

How we protect your data

This server is behind several firewalls, including the one configured on it. It has opened and forwarded only the http (just a redirection to https) and https ports. The only other way to access it is through ssh, all the other ports are closed, but the ssh access is allowed only from the local network, wired, from a particular ip address. The software on the server and routers is updated frequently, to ensure that any known security issues are fixed in time. The passwords are stored encrypted, the logs – which are needed to track the attempts of malicious usage and other issues – are deleted periodically. The administrative access passwords for this site are very complex, they cannot be broken by brute force attacks.

Data breach procedures

In the case of a data breach we will notify you about it, if you are still registered on the site. We back up data regularly, so a data breach with data loss/alteration won’t prevent notifying you about the event. We’ll also analyze the data available and determine whether a local law enforcement agency should be contacted based on the details of the incident.

What third parties we receive data from

We don’t receive personal data from any third parties if you choose only to visit pages.

Automated decision making and/or profiling

We don’t do profiling and automated decision making using the user data.
